Our Approach

Action is needed to move Ohio forward and promote the well-being of our communities and their residents. By investing in our families, communities, natural resources, and existing assets, we all share the potential to guide our state to renewed prosperity. The following principles must guide Ohio policymakers as they build a budget aimed at a better Ohio for all.

Principles in Action:

OneOhio Now's agenda calls for three primary strategies - accountability, balance and equity:

Accountability through closing tax loopholes.

State leaders should review tax breaks, many of which haven't been scrutinized for decades and reducing the more than $7 billion in revenue Ohio gives up every year through tax credits, deductions and exemptions.

Balancing the responsibilities of individuals and corporations.

State leaders should strengthen major corporate taxes. Today, Ohio corporations pay a much smaller share of state and local taxes than they used to, leaving families to shoulder an increasing share.

Reforming the personal income tax.

State leaders need to make the personal income tax more equitable and adequate to meet Ohio's needs.
